Your coffee routine starts before the kettle goes on. Once you have found a coffee you enjoy, a few storage habits can help protect its aroma between cups.
Choose a cool, dark place
Keep coffee away from heat, light, air and moisture. A cupboard away from the oven or dishwasher is a better choice than a sunny windowsill. Use a clean, dry, airtight container; an opaque container also limits light exposure.
For whole beans, grind what you need
Keep beans whole until you are ready to brew, then grind the amount needed for that cup or batch. Close the container promptly after measuring your coffee.
For ground coffee, keep the seal tight
Ground coffee benefits from the same cool, dry storage conditions. Reseal it carefully after use and avoid leaving the container open while you prepare your drink. Buy quantities that fit your routine instead of opening several large packs at once.
Read the package
Use the product's best-by date and storage directions as your reference. Packaging and storage conditions affect how long coffee keeps its flavor, so there is no single freshness deadline that fits every product. Keep coffee pods sealed until use and follow their package directions.

Choose a format that fits your morning
